AgiBot OmniHand 3 Ultra-M Dexterous Hand
The Ultra-M is the direct-drive flagship of AgiBot's third-generation hand line, and the number that defines it is 20 active degrees of freedom in 630 g (22.2 oz). Every joint is independently driven, which means joint state is read straight off each actuator's encoder rather than inferred through a tendon. For a learned manipulation policy that is the difference between training data you can trust as ground truth and training data you have to apologise for.
Repeatability is plus or minus 0.2 mm (0.008 in) across the workspace, open and close time is 0.3 s, and the hand lifts 8 kg (17.6 lb) with 3 kg (6.6 lb) rated for stable grasping. Sensing is the second reason to buy it. The palm carries a 3D tactile sensor with 300 taxels at 0.1 N (0.02 lbf) force resolution, and the fingertips use vision-based tactile sensing resolving 3D distributed force plus a 6D resultant across a 0 to 30 N (0 to 6.7 lbf) range, at 0.005 N force resolution, 0.04 mm spatial resolution and 0.08 mm deformation field accuracy. That is enough to tell slip from contact and an edge from a flat surface.
Key Highlights
- 20 active degrees of freedom at 630 g (22.2 oz), which the manufacturer brochure describes as the highest force density in its category.
- Direct drive at every joint, so each actuator's encoder reports real joint state for policy training and teleoperation capture.
- Plus or minus 0.2 mm (0.008 in) repeatability across the full workspace.
- 8 kg (17.6 lb) lifting capacity and 3 kg (6.6 lb) stable grasping payload.
- 0.3 s typical open and close time.
- Vision-based fingertip tactile sensing, 3D distributed force plus a 6D resultant, 0 to 30 N (0 to 6.7 lbf), 0.005 N force resolution, 0.04 mm spatial resolution, 0.08 mm deformation field accuracy.
- 300-taxel 3D palm tactile sensor at 0.1 N (0.02 lbf) force sensing resolution.
- CAN-FD, RS485 and Ethernet interfaces, all wired.
- Continuous-duty rated: the brochure cites 40 to 45 degrees C (104 to 113 degrees F) surface temperature under continuous load with no throttling, across 500k validated cycles.
- ROS, NVIDIA Omniverse, MuJoCo and Gazebo support with an SDK in Python and C++, per the manufacturer brochure.

Degrees of freedom, payload, repeatability, open and close time, weight and dimensions are as listed by the merchant. The tactile sensor figures, the RS485 interface, the 500k validated cycles and the simulation support come from the manufacturer OmniHand 3 Ultra-M brochure. The merchant page lists the interface as CAN FD and Ethernet; the brochure adds RS485. Subject to change at final delivery.
No radio, no FCC grant required. The Ultra-M communicates over wired CAN-FD, RS485 or Ethernet. There is no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular module in the hand, so the FCC equipment authorization rules that apply to mobile robots do not apply here.
Built For
- Embodied AI teams collecting manipulation training data where joint state has to be trustworthy
- Teleoperation and demonstration capture rigs
- Bimanual contact-rich manipulation research
- Grasping and tactile sensing labs that need force feedback rather than position control
- Humanoid platforms with the wrist payload budget for a 630 g hand
- Continuous-duty research runs rather than demo-day appearances
Good to Know
- Prices are per hand. Bimanual research setups cost double, which at $23,999 each is worth planning for before the grant is written.
- This is a pre-order. The supplier lists availability from the end of October. We confirm a delivery date in writing before we take payment.
- Stable grasping is 3 kg (6.6 lb) and lifting capacity is 8 kg (17.6 lb). They are different numbers for different things. Quote the right one in your specification.
- Mounting is not universal. Tell us which robot or arm you are fitting and we will confirm the wrist interface before quoting.
- Fingertip sensing is vision-based, so fingertip wear and contamination affect it differently from a resistive array. Plan a cleaning and inspection routine.
- If you want tendon-driven dexterity with a three-axis wrist instead, the OmniHand 3 Ultra-T is the other flagship. It has not been released yet.
How Purchasing Works
Tell us the side, the quantity of hands and which robot or arm they are mounting to, and we return a formal written quote, typically the same or next business day. We support purchase orders from universities, research institutions and enterprise buyers, and we accept tax-exempt purchasing with a valid certificate on file.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the AgiBot OmniHand 3 Ultra-M cost?
$23,999 per hand. A matched left and right pair is $47,998.
How much can it lift?
Lifting capacity is 8 kg (17.6 lb). Rated stable grasping payload is 3 kg (6.6 lb).
What kind of tactile sensing does it have?
Two kinds. The palm carries a 3D tactile sensor with 300 taxels at 0.1 N force sensing resolution. The fingertips use vision-based tactile sensing reading 3D distributed force plus a 6D resultant over a 0 to 30 N range, at 0.005 N force resolution, 0.04 mm spatial resolution and 0.08 mm deformation field accuracy.
Why does direct drive matter?
Each joint has its own actuator, so joint state is read directly from that actuator's encoder. A hand controller and a learned policy can treat it as ground truth instead of estimating it through a tendon.
How does it compare to the OmniHand Pro?
Different generation and a different class. The 2025-generation OmniHand Pro is a 19 degree-of-freedom, 820 g hand with 20 N typical fingertip force at $15,299. The OmniHand 3 Ultra-M has 20 active degrees of freedom in 630 g, plus or minus 0.2 mm repeatability, 8 kg lifting capacity and vision-based fingertip tactile sensing, at $23,999.
How does it communicate?
CAN-FD, RS485 or Ethernet, all wired.
Does it need FCC authorization?
No. The hand has no radio, so the equipment authorization rules that govern robots with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular radios do not apply to it.
Can I buy just one hand?
Yes. Each hand is sold singly as a left or a right. Choose Both hands for a matched pair.
When does it ship?
It is a pre-order. The supplier lists availability from the end of October, and we confirm a date in writing before taking payment.
Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes. We work with universities and research institutions regularly and accept POs and tax-exempt purchasing.
