The DJI Matrice 30T is DJI's all-weather folding thermal drone. It is IP55 rated, flies from -20°C to 50°C, and carries thermal, zoom, wide and laser rangefinder sensors in one gimbal.

In 2026 it shares the shelf with the lighter and cheaper Matrice 4T, so the real question is whether you need what the 30T does that the 4T does not. This guide covers the price, the verified specs, the jobs it is built for and who should buy something else.

Quick Answer

  • Buy the Matrice 30T ($12,602) if you fly in rain, snow or hard cold. It is IP55 and rated to -20°C.
  • Buy the Matrice 4T ($7,849) if you mostly fly in fair weather. It flies 49 minutes, weighs 1,219 g and has a 1,800 m rangefinder.
  • Buy the Matrice 400 + H30T ($22,060) if you need a native 1280×1024 thermal sensor, 59-minute flights or swappable payloads.

The 4T wins on weight, flight time, range and price. The 30T wins on weather: IP55 sealing and a -20°C floor. The M400 with an H30T beats both on sensor quality and endurance, at nearly twice the 30T's price. For the full three-way breakdown, see our 4T vs 30T vs Mavic 3T comparison.

Four Questions That Decide It

Weather

Will you fly in rain or snow?

If yes, the 30T is the compact choice. DJI publishes no IP rating for the Matrice 4T and advises landing when it rains.

Cold

How cold are your winters?

The 30T flies to -20°C and its batteries self-heat when charging below 10°C. The 4T is rated to -10°C.

Range

How far do you need to measure?

The 30T rangefinder reaches 1,200 m. If you mark targets farther out, the 4T reaches 1,800 m and the H30T 3,000 m.

Budget

What can you spend per aircraft?

At $12,602 the 30T costs $4,753 more than a 4T. That buys weather capability, not better imaging.

Firefighting

Fire is the job the 30T was built for. Its thermal camera measures up to 500°C in low-gain mode, so a crew can read hot spots and fire lines through smoke, and the IP55 airframe is sealed against the water spray and dust of a fire scene. The zoom camera lets an incident commander read a roof or a door from a safe standoff.

Search and Rescue

For search teams the 30T trades flight time for durability. It works in snow, wind and drizzle, packs into a hard case, and the laser rangefinder measures the distance and position of whatever the camera is pointed at, so a ground team gets a location, not a description.

Police and sheriff's offices call drones in at the worst hours. The 30T's IP55 rating covers rain, and its thermal camera does the work in the dark. Add the JZ M30 Quick Search Kit for a 60 W spotlight and a 114 dB speaker in one 230 g unit, built for the M30 series.

Wildlife and Conservation
