If you run a police or sheriff UAS program on the Skydio X10, the battery count decides how much of a shift your aircraft spend in the air. Here is what Skydio publishes, how to turn it into a planning number, and how many packs a program needs.
What the Skydio X10 battery is
Everything in this section comes from Skydio's technical specifications page (skydio.com/x10/technical-specs), which lists two revisions of the flight battery, both rechargeable lithium ion polymer.

Flight time versus real mission time
Forty minutes is the ceiling. Your planning number is what a battery gives you on a real call, and it is shorter. Four things take minutes off the top.
- Reserve. Most agency SOPs bring the aircraft home with 20 to 25% remaining. That alone removes 8 to 10 minutes from a 40-minute pack.
- Wind. Holding position or transiting into wind costs power. Skydio names wind as a factor without publishing a curve.
- Temperature. Cold reduces available capacity, and a pack has to be within Skydio's charging range (5°C to 45°C) before it will charge.
- Payload and thermal use. Skydio lists payload as a flight-time factor. A heavier configuration flies for less time.
Most public-safety programs land on a planning figure between 25 and 30 minutes of useful flight per battery. Use 25 unless your logs show better; everything below does.
How many batteries a program needs
Three worked examples; swap in your own numbers.
Example 1: a one-aircraft patrol unit
One Skydio X10 rides in a patrol SUV and averages about 2 hours of flight across a 10-hour shift.
- 120 minutes divided by 25 minutes per battery = 4.8, so 5 battery cycles per shift.
- No charging in the vehicle: 5 charged batteries plus one spare, 6 batteries, charged at the station between shifts.
- PRCS in the vehicle: one battery flies while the rest sit on the charger, and a set of four comes back to 90% in about 60 minutes. 4 batteries covers the average shift with no hard ceiling on a long search; 6 gives margin.
Example 2: a four-aircraft DFR pilot
Two aircraft live at docks and answer DFR calls. Two are carried in response vehicles for events, SWAT callouts and searches.
- Docked aircraft: charged at the docks, not part of the vehicle count.
- Two carried aircraft at 4 batteries each: 8 batteries for the vehicles.
- The hard case: a six-hour search with one aircraft overhead continuously is 360 minutes divided by 25, about 15 cycles. Eight batteries cover about 200 minutes of it.
- One PRCS in the response vehicle on the inverter returns four batteries per hour, up to 24 cycles over six hours.
Example 3: a multi-district fleet
Twelve aircraft across three districts: four at docks, eight carried in vehicles.
- Docked aircraft: charged at the docks.
- Carried aircraft: 8 x 4 = 32 batteries, plus about 10% rotation spares for packs pulled for maintenance cycles, 35 to 36 total.
- Vehicle charging: one PRCS per district response vehicle, 3 units. Multi-unit and agency pricing on request.
Rule of thumb: four batteries per carried aircraft, plus a PRCS in any vehicle that expects to work a scene for more than a couple of hours.

Charging options in the field
A Skydio program charges batteries in three places.
- The dock. The Skydio Dock for X10 launches, lands and charges the aircraft that lives in it.
- The station. Skydio's charging gear stays on wall power at the station and turns batteries over between shifts.
- The vehicle. This is the gap for aircraft carried to calls. The batteries that leave the station with the aircraft are all that aircraft has until someone drives back.

Battery care basics
The figures below are from Skydio's technical specifications page. Follow Skydio's current care guidance for storage charge level and maintenance cycles.
- Temperature. Charge between 5°C and 45°C. Store between -20°C and +45°C for under three months, and at 25 ±3°C for longer. Do not leave packs in a hot vehicle all day.
- Transport. The PRCS 30% mode brings packs down to a transport charge level before they go into cases.
- Rotation. Number the packs and rotate them so cycle counts stay even; retire one when your logs show it falling well short of the others.
- Cold. Cold reduces available capacity and a pack must be inside the charging range before it will charge, so keep spares in the cab rather than the cargo area in winter.
