The DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Enterprise Drone was the most capable compact thermal drone on the market for professional applications. In a foldable, 920g airframe, the Mavic 3T packed a tri-sensor payload, 640×512 uncooled VOx radiometric thermal, 48MP wide-angle, and 12MP 56× zoom, giving operators three distinct imaging tools in a single flight. Whether tracking a suspect at night, inspecting a powerline from a safe standoff distance, or searching for a missing person in dense terrain, the Mavic 3T delivered the visual data teams needed.
If you are specifying a compact thermal drone today, the Matrice 4 Thermal is the current-generation equivalent and the platform DJI actively supports. For mapping work without a thermal payload, the Matrice 4E at $5,189 covers the same airframe class.

What the Mavic 3T Was Used For
Public Safety & Law Enforcement
The Mavic 3T was the most widely deployed compact thermal drone in law enforcement. The 640×512 uncooled VOx sensor detects body heat at night, through smoke, and in low-visibility conditions, enabling suspect tracking, perimeter management, and tactical support without putting officers in harm's way. The 56× hybrid zoom let operators identify subjects at safe standoff distances, while the 45-minute flight time covered extended tactical situations on a single charge. Agencies specifying this capability today should look at the Matrice 4T.
Search & Rescue
SAR teams relied on the Mavic 3T for its ability to scan large search areas rapidly. A thermal drone can cover terrain in minutes that would take ground teams hours, detecting body heat signatures through dense vegetation and in complete darkness. The compact foldable design meant the Mavic 3T fit in a standard backpack and deployed in under 5 minutes at the trailhead.
Infrastructure Inspection
For powerline inspection, roof surveys, solar panel audits, and cell tower assessments, the Mavic 3T delivered a complete inspection toolkit in one aircraft. Operators could switch between thermal mode to spot hot spots and electrical faults, wide-angle mode for context imagery, and 56× zoom for component-level close-ups, all without landing or swapping payloads.
Fire Department & Wildfire Response
Fire departments used the Mavic 3T for structure fire monitoring, hotspot identification, and personnel accountability. The thermal sensor cuts through smoke to show live thermal activity inside a burning structure. The extended 15 km transmission range kept the aircraft in communication at large wildfire perimeters where proximity isn't possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still buy the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal?
No. DJI has ended production of the Mavic 3 Thermal and we can no longer source it, so it is not available to order. The direct replacement is the DJI Matrice 4 Thermal (M4T) at $7,849, which is in stock and actively supported by DJI.
What was the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal price?
The Mavic 3 Thermal Enterprise (Mavic 3T) was priced at $6,809, including the drone, one intelligent flight battery, remote controller, and standard accessories. The current-generation Matrice 4T is $7,849 and ships as a complete kit with battery, RC Plus 2 controller, charging hub and case.
Did the Mavic 3T have an IP rating?
No. DJI does not publish an ingress protection rating for the Mavic 3 Enterprise series, including the Mavic 3T. If weather sealing matters to your operation, the Matrice 4T is rated IP54 and the Matrice 30T is IP55.
What is the thermal resolution of the Mavic 3T?
The Mavic 3T uses a 640×512 uncooled VOx radiometric thermal sensor with a sensitivity of less than 50mK, enabling it to detect very small temperature differences. It outputs full radiometric JPEG images for post-flight analysis and calibrated temperature measurement.
Was the DJI Mavic 3T approved for federal procurement?
No. DJI drones, including the Mavic 3T, are not approved for federal procurement. DJI was added to the FCC Covered List in late 2025, which prohibits federally funded agencies from purchasing DJI equipment. The Mavic 3T was widely used by public safety agencies and enterprises operating outside of federal procurement restrictions. The same restriction applies to the Matrice 4T.
I already operate a Mavic 3T. Is it still supported?
Existing aircraft continue to fly, and the specifications above are kept published for reference. Parts and service availability will decline over time as the platform ages, which is worth planning for if the M3T is central to your operation. Talk to us about migration timing and trade-in options.
Can the Mavic 3T be used for search and rescue?
Yes, the Mavic 3T was one of the most popular SAR drones in the field. Its thermal sensor detects body heat signatures in dense vegetation, at night, and in adverse weather. The 45-minute flight time, 15 km transmission range, and compact foldable design made it ideal for rapid deployment SAR teams. Teams buying today should specify the Matrice 4T, which adds an 1,800 m laser rangefinder for putting GPS coordinates on a thermal contact.
What software does the DJI Mavic 3T work with?
The Mavic 3T is integrated with DJI Pilot 2 for field operations, DJI Terra for mission planning and 2D/3D data processing, and DJI FlightHub 2 for fleet management and remote monitoring. It also integrates with third-party platforms including DroneDeploy and Pix4D.
