There is no such thing as a DJI cleaning drone: DJI does not make or sell a drone designed for window cleaning or pressure washing. We sell DJI every day, so this is not competitor spin. Why do people try sprayer retrofits on camera drones?

The logic seems reasonable: agricultural drones spray crops, so why not strap a small tank and nozzle onto a camera drone? Videos online show exactly this, usually a quadcopter misting a first-storey wall with a nearly empty tank. The problems appear when you scale up to a real building.

Why DIY retrofits disappoint at height

  • Payload. Camera drones are built around a stabilized camera, not cargo, and water weighs roughly 8.3 pounds per gallon. Even a small tank exceeds design limits.
  • No tethered water feed. An onboard tank empties in minutes, forcing constant landings and refills.
  • No pressure at height. Cleaning glass takes consistent pressure and pure water, and a battery pump on the airframe cannot match a ground-based pump.
  • Flight time collapses. Extra weight and pump draw cut endurance to a fraction of spec.
  • Warranty and reliability. Pumps and liquid on an aircraft generally void manufacturer coverage, and water near flight electronics is a predictable failure mode.

What DJI drones are genuinely great at for building work

None of this means DJI has no place on a facade project. DJI enterprise platforms are excellent for the survey side of building maintenance: high-resolution facade inspection, roof surveys, thermal imaging that reveals moisture and insulation problems, and photogrammetry for documentation.
