Why the R1 Edu Pro Stands Out

The R1 Edu Pro is the top tier of the accessible R1 humanoid family: dealer configurations (Pro A-H) built on the official R1 EDU platform, with EDU-exclusive secondary development, 26-40 degrees of freedom, optional NVIDIA Orin compute, and optional LiDAR and dexterous hands for serious manipulation and embodied-AI research.

Runs Full Speed.

The R1 Edu Pro walks, balances, and runs on its own two feet. Dynamic balancing keeps this approx. 29 kg biped steady whether it is walking or at a full run.

Dexterous Manipulation.

Twenty-six to forty degrees of freedom, with an optional dexterous hand, give the R1 Edu Pro the reach and precision for serious manipulation and human-robot interaction research.

Acrobatic Control.

Built on the official R1 EDU platform with multimodal speech-and-vision AI onboard and optional NVIDIA Orin compute up to 100 TOPS, the R1 Edu Pro moves with the precise, dynamic control of a real research humanoid instead of a simulator.

FAQs

What's included when I buy an R1 Edu Pro, and what is quoted separately?

Each unit ships with the R1 Edu Pro humanoid in your chosen Pro configuration, a remote control, a charger, and a robot transport case. Options such as the dexterous hand, the higher-power NVIDIA Orin compute (40 to 100 TOPS), the LiDAR package, EDU backpack expansion, and a protective mount are configured and quoted separately. Tell us your research goals and we will build a configuration matrix and a price for exactly what your lab needs.

How do the eight Pro configurations (Pro A through Pro H) differ?

Pro A through Pro H are dealer configurations of the same R1 EDU platform, stepping up expansion compute, sensing, and end-effectors. Pricing runs from $19,800 (Pro G) up to $32,900 (Pro B and Pro D) as you add 40 to 100 TOPS of Orin compute, a LiDAR package, and either included grippers or a full dexterous hand. If you are unsure which tier fits your manipulation or embodied-AI pipeline, we will recommend one based on your workloads.

What is the lead time and how does the R1 Edu Pro ship?

Lead time depends on the configuration you pick and current factory availability: in-stock units ship quickly, while factory-configured builds need more time. The robot ships in its included transport case, and we confirm the exact lead time with your quote and send tracking updates through delivery. For multi-unit lab orders we coordinate staggered or consolidated shipping as needed.

What warranty and US-based service does the R1 Edu Pro come with?

A 12-month manufacturer warranty comes standard, serviced through Unitree's authorized US distribution with US-based repair, so your robot never has to go overseas for service. Because we source through authorized US distribution rather than gray-market imports, you also get English documentation, firmware support, and real pre- and post-sale help from Global Drone HQ. Ask us about extended coverage when you request a quote.

Can a university or government office buy the R1 Edu Pro on a purchase order?

Yes. We support university, government, and enterprise purchasing workflows, including formal quotes, vendor registration, W-9s, and purchase orders for verified institutions. We also handle multi-unit lab pricing when you are standing up a fleet. Send us your procurement requirements and we will provide the paperwork your office needs.

Does the R1 Edu Pro support an SDK and secondary development?

Yes. Every Edu Pro configuration is built on the R1 EDU platform, the only R1 tier with secondary-development support, which is what makes it a genuine research platform rather than a fixed-function robot. The optional NVIDIA Orin compute (40 to 100 TOPS) gives you onboard headroom for AI, perception, and control workloads. Combined with the binocular depth camera and optional LiDAR, it is built for teams writing their own manipulation and embodied-AI software.

Is the R1 Edu Pro NDAA-compliant for government buyers?

No. Unitree is a Chinese manufacturer, so the R1 Edu Pro is not NDAA-compliant and is not intended for programs that require NDAA-compliant hardware. This does not affect universities, private research labs, or most commercial buyers, who make up the large majority of Edu Pro customers. If your funding source carries NDAA restrictions, contact us before ordering so we can confirm fit.

Should I choose the R1 Edu Pro, the R1 Edu Smart, or the G1 Edu Standard?

Choose the R1 Edu Pro when you want the top of the accessible R1 family with expanded compute, sensing, and dexterous-hand options for serious manipulation work. Step down to the R1 Edu Smart (from $18,900) if your lab has lighter compute needs and a tighter budget, or step up to the G1 Edu Standard (from $43,900) for Unitree's flagship research humanoid with full SDK and Jetson Orin compute. Manipulation teams can also add the R1 A5 dual-arm robot for benchtop work. We are happy to talk through the trade-offs for your program.

How long does the battery last, and can I add spares?

The R1 Edu Pro uses a swappable battery pack with roughly one hour of runtime per charge. Because the pack is hot-swappable, most labs keep spare packs charging so a session continues with only a brief swap rather than a full recharge. Ask us to add spare batteries to your quote so your team can plan continuous test and data-collection sessions.

What are the safety and setup requirements for the R1 Edu Pro?

The R1 Edu Pro is a research platform for operators 18 and up and should run in a clear, dry indoor space; it is not waterproof or dustproof, with an operating range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius. A protective mount is not included by default, and Unitree recommends a protective frame or stand for startup and extended standing, so plan early development sessions accordingly. Let us know at quote time if you want a mount added.
