If you're searching for the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal — also known as the DJI Mavic 3T, DJI M3T, or simply the Mavic 3T drone — this guide covers everything: full specs, its original pricing, real-world use cases, and what has replaced it now that DJI has ended production.
Is the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Still Available?
No. DJI has discontinued the Mavic 3 Thermal, and it is no longer possible to source new units. The same applies to its visual-only sibling, the Mavic 3 Enterprise. Both roles are now covered by the Matrice 4 Series:
- Thermal: Mavic 3T → DJI Matrice 4T, $7,849
- Visual and mapping: Mavic 3E → DJI Matrice 4E, $5,189
For a direct feature-by-feature breakdown of what changed, read Matrice 4T vs Mavic 3T. If you already operate an M3T, your aircraft continues to fly; the specifications below remain published for reference, though parts and service availability will decline as the platform ages.
What Was the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal (M3T)?
The DJI Mavic 3T was part of DJI's enterprise Mavic 3 lineup, designed for professional operators who needed thermal imaging in a portable, foldable package. Unlike the consumer Mavic 3 series, the Mavic 3T came with a dedicated enterprise payload system and a built-in multi-sensor camera combining thermal, zoom, and wide-angle imaging in a single lightweight aircraft.
It launched as one of the most capable compact thermal drones available, and held that position for several years before the Matrice 4 Series superseded it.

DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Price
The DJI Mavic 3T price was $6,809 USD. Pricing varied depending on whether you bought the drone alone, a fly-more combo, or bundled it with the DJI RC Pro Enterprise controller. Enterprise accessories such as the spotlight, speaker, and beacon were sold separately.
The current-generation equivalent, the DJI Matrice 4T, is $7,849 and ships as a complete kit including the battery, RC Plus 2 controller, charging hub and case, so the real-world gap is smaller than the headline $1,040 difference suggests. Who Used the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal (M3T)?
The Mavic 3T became a go-to platform across a wide range of professional use cases. Its portability and sub-1kg weight made it deployable in minutes, which is critical for time-sensitive operations. Every one of these roles is now served by the Matrice 4T.
Public Safety and Law Enforcement
Police and sheriff departments used the DJI M3T for aerial surveillance, crowd monitoring, and suspect tracking. The 56× hybrid zoom let officers observe from a safe standoff distance, while the thermal camera identified individuals by heat signature in low-light or nighttime conditions. See DJI Matrice 4 for Police and Law Enforcement for the current-generation equivalent.
Search and Rescue (SAR)
SAR teams deployed the Mavic 3 Thermal to locate missing persons in wilderness, urban, and disaster scenarios. The 640×512 thermal sensor detects body heat through smoke, heavy brush, and darkness, conditions where visual cameras are useless. Its 45-minute flight time allowed large search grids to be covered efficiently. See our guides to the best drones for search and rescue and the Matrice 4 for SAR.
Firefighting and Wildfire Monitoring
Fire departments and wildland firefighters used the Mavic 3T to map fire perimeters, locate hot spots, and identify fire progression through smoke. The radiometric thermal sensor provides actual temperature readings, not just a visual heat map, which is critical for fire behavior analysis. For current options, see the best thermal drones for firefighting.
Utility and Infrastructure Inspection
Power utilities used the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal to inspect transmission lines, substations, and solar farms. Thermal imaging reveals overheating connections, failing insulators, and hot panels that are invisible to standard cameras, preventing equipment failures and outages before they happen.
Building Inspection and Energy Audits
Building inspectors and energy auditors deployed the M3T to identify heat loss, moisture intrusion, and HVAC inefficiencies in commercial and residential properties. The radiometric data integrates with DJI Thermal Analysis Tool for professional reporting.
DJI Mavic 3T vs DJI Matrice 30T

Is the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal NDAA Compliant?
No, the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal is not NDAA compliant. DJI is a Chinese-owned manufacturer subject to restrictions under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Section 848 and is on the FCC's Covered List. Federal agencies, government contractors, and recipients of federal funding generally cannot procure DJI drones for covered operations. The same restriction applies to the Matrice 4T.
Autel drones are not NDAA-eligible either; Autel is also a Chinese manufacturer on the FCC Covered List and does not appear on the DIU Blue UAS cleared list. For NDAA-restricted programs, see our guide to NDAA-compliant drones for 2026; Blue UAS-cleared thermal options include the Skydio X10 and Parrot ANAFI USA GOV.
DJI Mavic 3T Enterprise Accessories
The Mavic 3T supported DJI's enterprise accessory ecosystem, which attached to the top of the aircraft:
- DJI Spotlight Pro — 2,800-lumen spotlight for nighttime operations
- DJI Speaker Pro — two-way communications and pre-recorded announcements
- DJI Beacon — high-visibility strobe for night flights
- RTK Module — centimeter-level positioning for mapping and surveying
Accessory compatibility differs on the Matrice 4 Series, so check before assuming Mavic 3 Enterprise accessories carry across. Third-party manufacturers CZI and JZ also built spotlights, speakers, and drop systems for the Mavic 3 Enterprise series; see the Mavic 3 Enterprise payloads guide.
Software: What Worked With the DJI M3T?
The Mavic 3 Thermal is compatible with the DJI enterprise software ecosystem:
- DJI Pilot 2 — mission planning and flight control app
- DJI FlightHub 2 — cloud-based fleet management and live streaming
- DJI Thermal Analysis Tool — desktop app for radiometric thermal data analysis and reporting
- DJI Terra — 2D/3D mapping and photogrammetry (with RGB camera)
What to Buy Instead of the Mavic 3 Thermal
Global Drone HQ carries the current DJI Enterprise lineup. For a compact thermal drone, the DJI Matrice 4T at $7,849 is the direct successor and ships as a complete kit. For visual and mapping work without thermal, the Matrice 4E at $5,189 replaces the Mavic 3 Enterprise. For heavier or longer-range operations, look at the full Matrice 4 Series guide.
